Hands-on Handmade is an interactive way to engage attendees and vendors through demonstrations and activities. Hands-on Handmade is supported in part by a Seed Award from The Sprout Fund.

Featured artists/organizations in Hands-on Handmade:

Pizza Relay
Teams will suit up in upcycled costumes and race to assemble a giant plush pizza. This activity is about creative play with recycled materials and collaboration. Led by Nicole Kurtz

Psychic T-shirt E.S.P.
Participants will pick a rock from a basket and focus on what kind of t-shirt they want to have painted, and then it will be painted right before their eyes! The simple act of picking up a rock and concentrating on a hopeful thought promotes positive and creative thinking, and gives participants a new perception of fun--all while sparking imagination and being engaged with a sense of chance, spontaneity and possibility. Led by Gabe Felice

A Craft Happening
This will be a collective participation growing installation piece made from paper tubes and colorful painters tape. This installation has been done before by Assemble gallery and results in a complex sculptural piece that grows throughout the day. Nina is encouraging people bring their own tubes too (insides of paper towel rolls & toilet paper rolls) but a large collection of recycled pieces will be there ready to be made! Led by Nina Barbuto

Artists Image Resource (AIR): Handmade Gift Wrap
Six featured patterns on 36"x48" screens will be ready to be printed on site to create handmade gift wrap. Designs will be layered two at a time to create magnificently textured and patterned gift-worthy motifs on paper. Stop back throughout the day for different pattern combinations on the gift wrap. All of the gift wrap created will be custom made. All patterns are being custom made by six different local artists.

Evolve will lead a special performance piece on site during the event. Shhh ... the content and times are a secret, so you have to be at Handmade to experience this live performance art!

CAPA High School/Power up: Warhol Museum
Two talented groups of creative youth are teaming up to collaborate on the creation of a "performance piece spectacular," featuring screen printing, pillows made on site that visitors can take away, and plenty of bootylicious crafting!

Drawing from the Society's current featured paperworks artist Amanda Gross, the Society for Contemporary Craft will lead a paper basket weaving craft, which involves upcycling of their catalogue books as art material.
